Associates Plan Operation H.O.M.E.
AVVA's Operation H.O.M.E. (Helping our Military Everyday) is a program to show appreciation to the military. Their current project is to deliver Easter baskets to soliders and their families, (E-6 and below). This is a very ambitious program to show support through out the year. Contact avva@cochisecountyvva.org for more information.
Wounded Warrior Mentor Program
At the last chapter meeting, we discussed furthering our VSO assistance to all veterans and exploring the possibilities of initiating a mentorship program with wounded warriors on Fort Huachuca.
All branches of the service have a wounded warrior program with two goals. Either return the service member to active service or prepare them for the transition to veteran status (i.e. civilian). We would like to be of assistance to those transitioning out of the service. The chapter has made contact with key personnel on the post to see what service we could provide. As the state of Arizona is cutting back it's veteran services programs, it is more important than ever that we train VSO's and provide the assistance needed. Today's veterans relate to Vietnam era veterans as having "been there" and knowing what they are going through.
If you have ideas or suggestions please contact us at info@cochisecountyvva.org for your suggestions.
VSO Program
The chapter is looking form members who are sincerely interested in helping veterans by becoming a Veterans Service Officer. The primary purpose is to assist veterans with claims and appeals to the Veterans Administration. Cochise county, as a whole, is severely lacking in the number of trained personnel who can provide VSO services. If you have time on your hands and a sincere desire to help our brothers and sisters, step up and get involved.
